How to Change Name Legally in Faridabad

Faridabad district was created by taking land out of Gurgaon on 15 August 1979. Twenty nine years later, on 15 August 2008, land was taken out of Faridabad to create Palwal. So a family in the southern belt has carried three district names across two generations without anyone moving house. Here is the process, both routes, and why that history reaches your paperwork.

How does a name change in Faridabad actually work?

The written answer is directly below, in about sixty words. If you would rather see the whole thing explained once before reading, start here.

Name Change Procedure in Faridabad फरीदाबाद में नाम बदलने की प्रक्रिया

Three things to check as you watch. Whether the recording means the Haryana Gazette or the Gazette of India, because this state has both and only one of them satisfies a passport. Any office address it gives, because there is no gazette office in Faridabad. And any all-inclusive price, because the Central Government fee alone is commonly Rs 1,100 and is revised each financial year.
Quick answer

Make a notarised affidavit and publish the change in two newspapers, one Hindi and one English. Then either apply online through Haryana's Antyodaya SARAL portal for the state gazette, or send the prescribed file to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054 for the Gazette of India, which publishes in Part IV in about 30 to 45 days. There is no gazette office in Faridabad itself, whatever a local page tells you.

What does changing your name legally in Faridabad involve?

Three ordinary stages, a genuine choice of route, and two local details that quietly return files.

At a glance

  • Stages: notarised affidavit, then two newspaper notices, then a gazette notification.
  • Two routes: the Haryana state gazette applied for online, or Part IV of the Gazette of India for a passport, a visa, a central post or anything outside the state.
  • Neither route needs travel. The state one is an online form. The Central one goes by post.
  • Central fee: commonly Rs 1,100 adult, Rs 1,700 minor, Rs 3,500 from abroad, on bharatkosh.gov.in only and revised each financial year.
  • State fee: as shown on the portal at the application stage. We do not print a figure we could not confirm.
  • Central timeline: about 30 to 45 days after the file reaches Delhi. Plan 3 to 7 weeks overall.
  • The local traps: your current district, and whether you write Ballabgarh or Ballabhgarh.

Key takeaways

  • Haryana has a genuine state route for personal name changes, run by the Printing and Stationery Department and applied for online through the Antyodaya SARAL portal.
  • Because it is online, the distance to Chandigarh is irrelevant. You do not travel anywhere for either route.
  • There is no gazette office in Faridabad. A widely shared blog page tells readers to visit one, and it does not exist.
  • The Haryana Gazette is published weekly and the Ordinary Gazette is dispatched every Friday, in fifteen different Parts and sub-parts of its own.
  • So Part IV is Central numbering only. A Part IV reference attached to a state gazette is a copied error.
  • The Central fee is commonly Rs 1,100 adult, Rs 1,700 minor, Rs 3,500 from abroad, on bharatkosh.gov.in only. Demand drafts are not accepted.
  • If your older documents name Gurgaon and newer ones name Faridabad or Palwal, that is the 1979 and 2008 district changes, not an error.
  • Official sources spell the town both Ballabgarh and Ballabhgarh. Pick the form on your address proof and never vary it.
  • If the state route stalls, Haryana has a statutory service framework with first and second appeal officers under the Right to Service Act, 2014.
  • A birth certificate mistake is a Registrar correction under Section 15 of the RBD Act, 1969, not a gazette matter.

Why has your district name changed twice without you moving?

The history here is unusually tidy, and it explains a documentation problem a great many local families have.

Faridabad the town is old. Faridabad the district is not. It came onto the map of Haryana on 15 August 1979, as the twelfth district of the state, carved out of Gurgaon district. Then on 15 August 2008, Faridabad district was itself divided, and Palwal became the twenty first district of Haryana, taking Palwal, Hodal and Hathin with it.

Both carvings happened on Independence Day, twenty nine years apart. Faridabad was created by subtraction from Gurgaon, and later diminished by subtraction to create Palwal. Palwal's own district administration puts the second one plainly: “Finally Palwal became the 21st district of Haryana on 15 Augest, 2008,” and the same page records that Gurgaon district was earlier divided to form Faridabad district.

Which district a document from the southern belt would name, depending on when it was issued
If your document was issuedIn the southern belt, it would name
Before 15 August 1979Gurgaon district
Between 1979 and 15 August 2008Faridabad district
From 15 August 2008 onwardsPalwal district, for Palwal, Hodal and Hathin

So which one do you write?

Three district names, one place, two generations, and nobody moved. All three are accurate for the dates they were issued, and none of them needs correcting. An older certificate naming Gurgaon is not out of date, and no office is entitled to reject it on that ground.

What it does mean is that your application must use your current district, written identically on the affidavit, on both newspaper notices and on the proforma. Do not try to reconcile the old and new district names inside the same file, and do not helpfully write both. A reader comparing three documents needs them to agree, and explaining administrative history to that reader is not the job of a name change application.

This is administrative history, nothing more. Districts are created and divided as a matter of record. All this page takes from it is one practical rule: use the district your address proof carries today, and use only that one.

Ballabgarh or Ballabhgarh, and does it matter?

A small point with a real cost, and it is specific to this district.

Government material spells the town both ways. The district administration's own site at faridabad.nic.in writes Ballabgarh, including in its history where it records that a ruler “had built a mud fort in about 1740 and named it Ballabgarh,” and it refers to the “Faridabad and Ballabgarh tehsils.” Other official material, including the Metro station name, writes Ballabhgarh. Both appear on genuine documents.

That matters because the district has three sub-divisions, each headed by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate: Faridabad, Ballabgarh and Badkhal. So a very large number of residents have that word somewhere in their address, and it is exactly the kind of word that three different typists spell two different ways across one file.

Is there anything else the official sources disagree on?

Yes, and we found it while checking this page rather than taking it on trust. The district's own website gives the town's founding as “established in AD 1707 by Sheikh Farid.” Other Government material, and the standard reference works, give 1607, and describe Shaikh Farid as treasurer to the emperor Jahangir, who built a fort, a tank and a mosque to protect the highway running between Delhi and Agra. The town was constituted a municipality in 1867.

Only one of those two dates can sit with the Jahangir connection, since that emperor's reign ended long before 1707. We are not going to pretend to settle it here, and nothing in your application turns on it. We mention it because it makes the point of this whole page better than any advice could: official sources do disagree with each other, in print, on their own websites. Which is why the only spelling and the only district that matter for your file are the ones on your own address proof.

How to change name legally in Faridabad: the notarised affidavit on stamp paper, the Hindi and English newspaper notices, and the choice between the Haryana Gazette and the Central Gazette Part IV file
What a Faridabad file is built from: the affidavit, the two notices and the application on whichever route your case needs.

What is the fix?

Whatever your own address proof says, use that spelling, unchanged, on every paper. Do not let a notary's typist, a newspaper clerk or a form-filler correct it. Write it out once on a slip of paper and hand that slip to each of them, along with your name and your current district. That one habit costs nothing and prevents the commonest avoidable rejection here.

Which of the two routes do you actually need?

Faridabad residents have a genuine choice, and one misconception is worth clearing up before anything else.

Haryana runs a real citizen route for personal name changes. It is administered by the Printing and Stationery Department, and the application is made online through the Antyodaya SARAL portal. Because it is online, it does not matter that the department sits in Chandigarh, several hundred kilometres north. You apply from a screen in Faridabad.

The Central Gazette office is at Civil Lines in Delhi, about twenty five kilometres away, but that does not matter either, because applications there are accepted by post and agents cannot file in your place regardless.

So the choice is not about distance. It is about where your new name has to work. Neither route requires you to travel anywhere, and any page that makes a distance argument in Haryana has not understood how the state route runs.

What does the Haryana Gazette actually look like?

Worth knowing, because most guides to this state never say. The Government of Haryana records that the Gazette is “published weekly by the Printing & Stationery Department, Haryana,” that the Ordinary Gazette is “published weekly in fifteen different Parts/sub-parts which contains Notifications and Orders” and is “dispatched on every Friday,” and that every immediate notification requiring an extraordinary issue is printed in the Haryana Government Extraordinary Gazette. The department itself describes a gazette as “a public journal, a newspaper of Government record and an authorised legal document of the Government published weekly.”

Which settles a myth you will meet. The Haryana Gazette has fifteen Parts and sub-parts of its own. Part IV is Central numbering, belonging to the Gazette of India. Any page or service that quotes you a Part IV for a state gazette has copied Central wording onto a state process and has not read either.
Choosing a name change route from Faridabad: the Haryana Gazette applied for online through Antyodaya SARAL, and Part IV of the Gazette of India filed by post at Civil Lines, Delhi 110054
Neither route needs you to travel: the Haryana one is an online form, the Central one goes by post.

Which route do most Faridabad applicants actually need?

For Faridabad specifically, the Central route is needed more often than the general advice suggests. This is an NCR city where a great many people work in Delhi, Noida or Gurugram, hold documents from other states, or need a passport. If any of that applies, Part IV of the Gazette of India is what those institutions look for. If your records are purely Haryana ones, the state route is faster and cheaper.

And one thing to disregard entirely. A widely shared blog page tells Faridabad readers to visit a gazette office in the city. There is no gazette office in Faridabad. If a page invents an office, treat its fees and its procedures with the same suspicion.

What is the step by step name change procedure in Faridabad?

Five stages, and the first one is the one people skip.

1

Fix the name, the district and the spelling

Settle three things before anything is typed: the exact form of your name, your current district, and how you spell the town. Lay out your documents, note how the name appears on each, and choose the version carried by whichever is hardest to change, usually a board certificate or a live passport.

Then get an affidavit drafted on non-judicial stamp paper stating your old name, your new name, your father's or husband's name, your full address and a clear reason, and sign it before a notary. Stamp paper and notary together usually cost Rs 100 to Rs 500, and notaries are plentiful around the District Court in Sector 12.

2

Publish two newspaper notices

Publish the same notice in two dailies that genuinely circulate here, one Hindi and one English. Faridabad is well served, so compare quotes.

Read the proof before it prints, checking the district name and the spelling of the town as carefully as you check your own name. The notice must carry your old name, new name, full address, age, parentage and the affidavit date, worded exactly as the affidavit reads.

3A

The Haryana route

Apply online through saralharyana.gov.in, selecting the change of name service under the Printing and Stationery Department, and upload the affidavit, the newspaper proof, identity and address proof and photographs as required.

Confirm the current fee and document list on the portal itself rather than from any private site, including this one. Keep your application reference and the payment receipt, because both are what an appeal under the Right to Service Act needs.

3B

The Central route

For a passport, a visa, a central Government post or anything outside Haryana, prepare the full file: the original newspaper pages, the notice for Part IV showing parentage and residential address, a signed undertaking, two copies of the prescribed proforma computer typed and attested with two witnesses' details, the print matter without the witness portion in MS Word, a certificate that hard and soft copies match, self-attested identity proof of applicant and each witness, two photographs, and a request letter to the Controller of Publications.

4

Pay and send

The Central fee is paid only through bharatkosh.gov.in, commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult, Rs 1,700 for a minor and Rs 3,500 for Indians abroad, revised each financial year, so confirm on deptpub.gov.in first. It is non-refundable and demand drafts are not accepted.

Send the file to Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. Despite the short distance, applications are accepted from the applicant directly or by post, not from agents, so posting it is normal and costs you nothing in standing.

5

Download the notification

Central publication follows in Part IV about 30 to 45 days after the file arrives. Hard copies ceased on 1 October 2015, so you open the relevant issue on egazette.gov.in, use Control and F to find your old or new name, and download the whole gazette.

Print several copies, and check the district spelling when you find it. It needs no certification, and nobody should charge you to fetch a public record.

Keep every supporting document recent. The Department expects papers not older than one year, and documents once submitted are not returned, so never send an original you will need again.

What documents are required for a name change in Faridabad?

This is the Central Gazette list. For the Haryana route, the portal shows its own list at the application stage.

The newspaper proof

The original newspaper pages carrying your notices, one Hindi and one English. Complete pages, not cuttings, with the date visible.

The notice for Part IV

The notice for the Gazette of India Part IV, showing your parentage and residential address, forwarded in original.

The undertaking

An undertaking signed by you showing your old and new name with full parentage and address, declaring that the facts stated are true.

The proforma, in duplicate

Two copies of the prescribed proforma, computer typed and not handwritten, signed and attested, with two witnesses' details.

The soft copy

The print matter without the witness portion, in MS Word, as a soft copy. No CD is required.

The matching certificate

A certificate signed by you declaring that the contents of the hard copy and the soft copy are the same.

Identity proofs and photographs

Self-attested identity proof of the applicant and of each witness, plus two passport size photographs.

The request letter

A request letter addressed to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, listing what the envelope contains.

What changes if you are a minor, abroad, or in Government service?

A minor

A parent or legal guardian swears the affidavit and applies, attaching the child's birth certificate. The minor fee applies. No personal appearance by the child is required anywhere.

An applicant abroad

The deed is attested by the Indian Embassy or High Commission in that country, and the fee head is the one for Indians abroad. Budget for attestation and courier separately.

A Government employee

A deed executed and routed through the department, under the 1987 Home Ministry memorandum for central employees, so the service book is updated alongside the gazette.

Read the Department's own wording before you plan a trip to Delhi. An application either submitted personally or sent by post or courier only will be entertained. Nobody can hand your file in on your behalf, however close you live.

What does a name change cost in Faridabad?

Honest ranges, and one figure we will not print because it belongs on the portal.

Speed post to DelhiRs 50 to Rs 100Short distance, but still by post
Realistic self-done totalRs 1,500 to Rs 6,000Depending on route and newspapers

Are the Rs 999 packages real?

The Central Government fee alone is commonly Rs 1,100, so a Rs 999 all-inclusive package cannot include it. Before paying any service, ask three questions: which gazette do you mean, is the Government fee included, and where exactly is the file submitted. If they offer to hand it in at a gazette office in Faridabad, they are describing something that does not exist.

What is the Rs 250 per alias charge you may have read about?

It is a misreading that has spread across a great many guides. The additional charge relates to a change of religion case, not to each additional alias name. Since the schedule is revised each financial year in any event, read the current rate on deptpub.gov.in before you pay, rather than trusting any figure a guide prints, including ours.

No route sells speed. There is no expedited option and no tatkal fee head on either the Haryana or the Central route. Any promise of faster Government processing for a higher fee describes a company's own turnaround, not the Government's.

How long does a name change take in Faridabad?

Plan for 3 to 7 weeks on the Central route. Neither route sells expedited processing.

Affidavit and notary

Usually the same day. Have the name, the district and the town spelling settled before you arrive.

Newspaper publication

2 to 7 days, depending on the booking schedule of the papers you choose.

The Haryana route

Ask the portal at the application stage. The Ordinary Gazette is dispatched weekly, on a Friday, but we will not turn that into a promise.

Central file preparation

2 to 4 days to prepare and send, mostly spent on the proforma and the matching soft copy.

Central publication

30 to 45 days in Part IV after the file reaches Delhi. Identical for every applicant in India.

Board or university correction

That institution's own timeline, and longer again if the board is in another state. Budget for it separately.

If a passport appointment or a joining date depends on this, start early. The passport re-issue comes after the gazette and has its own timeline on top. Nobody can compress the publication stage, on either route.

Which special situations come up most often here?

What if my documents name Palwal, Hodal or Hathin?

If your older papers name Faridabad district and your newer ones name Palwal, that is the 2008 division and not a discrepancy. Use your current district in the new application and leave the older document alone. The same applies to anything naming Gurgaon from before 1979.

My board certificate is from another state. What then?

Faridabad's industrial belt draws people from across north India, and the underlying mismatch is very often inherited: a board certificate issued in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar or Rajasthan written one way, and everything obtained here written another.

Use the Central Gazette, since it is valid in every state and supports a correction application to the home board, which then runs its own process and decides its own outcome. Ask that board what it accepts before choosing a route, because some boards are stricter about the age of the notification or the form of the affidavit than the gazette office ever is.

Does working in Delhi, Noida or Gurugram change anything?

Usually yes. A great many residents work across the boundary, and a mismatch surfaces at an employer's verification or at a bank rather than at home. Use the Central route, which is valid everywhere.

And remember that employer records are often held in several places at once, including HR, payroll and any background verification agency, each needing a separate update. Changing one and assuming the rest follow is how a name mismatch reappears at the next job change.

What should a passport applicant decide first?

Decide what goes in the given name field and what in the surname field before the passport is issued or re-issued, because that split follows you onto every visa afterwards. Sequence it as gazette, then Aadhaar, then PAN and bank, then the passport, then anything overseas.

Do you need a gazette to change your name after marriage?

The same stages apply, with the marriage certificate attached. And a point worth saying plainly: if you keep using your existing name and nothing on paper changes, you do not need a gazette at all. Nobody is obliged to change anything.

What extra do minors and Government employees need?

A parent or legal guardian applies on a child's behalf, attaching the birth certificate; on the Central route the minor fee applies, commonly Rs 1,700 with the usual revision caveat.

Central Government employees follow the Ministry of Home Affairs O.M. No. 190016/1/87-Estt.(A) dated 12 March 1987, executing a deed routed through the department so the service book is updated alongside the gazette. State Government employees should inform their department too, because a service record that does not match creates problems at promotion and pension stage.

What if the Haryana application stalls?

Haryana operates a statutory service framework with first and second appeal officers under the Right to Service Act, 2014. Keep your application reference and payment receipt and use that route, rather than paying somebody to chase it for you. That is a right you already have, and it costs nothing to exercise.

Which areas across Faridabad do we serve?

What do the terms in this process actually mean?

Each definition stands on its own, so you can read just the one you need.

Gazette of India
The official journal of the Union Government, published by the Department of Publication. A change of name notification printed here is recognised by every institution in the country and accepted abroad, which is why a passport or a visa needs this route rather than a state one.
Part IV
The part of the Gazette of India in which private individuals' notices, including change of name, appear. Part IV is Central numbering. The Haryana Gazette runs fifteen Parts and sub-parts of its own, so a Part IV reference attached to a state gazette is a copied error.
Haryana Gazette
The state's own official journal, published weekly by the Printing and Stationery Department, Haryana. The Ordinary Gazette is dispatched every Friday in fifteen Parts and sub-parts; urgent matter goes into the Extraordinary Gazette.
Antyodaya SARAL
The Government of Haryana's single online portal for citizen services, at saralharyana.gov.in, through which the change of name service under the Printing and Stationery Department is applied for. Being online, it works identically from any district.
Right to Service Act, 2014
The Haryana law that puts notified public services on a statutory footing with first and second appeal officers. If a state application stalls beyond its stated timeline, this is the route to escalate it, using your application reference.
Department of Publication
The Central body at Civil Lines, Delhi 110054 that publishes the Gazette of India. It receives a change of name file from anywhere in India or abroad, by post or courier, and there is no branch of it in Faridabad.
Controller of Publications
The officer heading the Department of Publication, to whom the request letter accompanying a change of name file is addressed. This officer sits in Delhi, and a demand draft made out in that officer's name is describing a payment method that no longer exists.
Proforma
The prescribed form for a change of name notice on the Central route, submitted in duplicate, computer typed rather than handwritten, signed and attested, and carrying the details of two witnesses.
Affidavit
A sworn statement on non-judicial stamp paper giving your old name, new name, parentage, address and the reason for the change, signed before a notary. It is sworn by you alone; the two witnesses belong on the proforma.
BharatKosh
The Government of India's Non-Tax Receipt Portal at bharatkosh.gov.in, and the only accepted way to pay the Central Gazette fee. Demand drafts are not accepted and the fee is non-refundable.
Registrar correction
A correction to a birth or death entry made by the registering authority under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, through the municipal corporation, nagar palika or panchayat that registered it.
Sub-division
An administrative unit of a district headed by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Faridabad district has three: Faridabad, Ballabgarh and Badkhal, which is why that town's spelling appears in so many local addresses.

What do you update after the gazette, and in what order?

The notification is the middle of the journey. Each office asks for the one before it.

The order in which to update records after a gazette notification, and why each comes where it does
OrderRecordWhy here
1Aadhaar, at an enrolment centre with the gazette copy and identity proofAlmost everything downstream verifies against it
2PAN cardBanks and employers check PAN against Aadhaar
3Bank accounts, and the signature specimen if the name in it has changedNeeded before salary, EPFO and insurance records will follow
4Passport, as a re-issue, with the name fields filled as you decidedEvery foreign record afterwards copies from it, and this needs the Central route
5Voter ID and driving licence, and vehicle papersYour vehicle may be registered under HR-51, HR-29, HR-38 or HR-87 depending on where and when
6EPFO or UAN, insurance policies and service recordsThese verify against PAN and bank details already updated
7Board and university records, including any in another stateEach runs its own process and takes its own time
8Employer, payroll, verification agency, property and society recordsHeld in separate systems that do not talk to each other
Keep several printouts. Every office wants its own copy to retain. Aadhaar rules are on uidai.gov.in and passport re-issue rules are on passportindia.gov.in.
And write the district and the town the same way here too. Having settled one form of each for the gazette file, carry those same forms onto every updated record, so the next verification does not raise the question all over again.

Is a birth certificate mistake a gazette matter?

Usually not. If the error sits in a birth certificate, the fix is a Registrar correction under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, through the body that registered the birth, which within the city is the Municipal Corporation Faridabad, or the relevant municipal body or panchayat elsewhere in the district.

And note the local wrinkle: if the birth was registered in what is now Palwal district, it goes to the body there, not to Faridabad, even though Faridabad was the district at the time. The national Civil Registration System portal is crsorgi.gov.in. For a plain clerical error that is usually the whole answer, and much the cheapest one.

A walkthrough of the birth certificate route

Watch this one with the section above in mind, because the distinction is what saves you money. A clerical error in a birth entry is a Registrar correction under Section 15, made by the body that registered the birth, which within the city is the Municipal Corporation Faridabad. It is not a gazette matter on either route, and it costs a fraction of one.

And check which body actually holds the entry before you start. If the birth was registered in what is now Palwal district, it goes to the body there, even though Faridabad was the district at the time. That single check saves a wasted trip more often than anything else on this page.

Name Change in Faridabad in Birth Certificate फ़रीदाबाद में जन्म प्रमाण पत्र में नाम कैसे बदलें

When is it a gazette matter after all?

When you are changing the name rather than correcting the record. If the certificate correctly records the name you were given and you now wish to be known by a different one, that is a change of name and the gazette route applies. The test is simple: was the entry wrong when it was made, or is it right but no longer what you use?

What are the common mistakes in a Faridabad name change?

Almost every one of these costs weeks, and almost every one is free to avoid.

Setting off to find a gazette office in Faridabad

On the strength of a blog page. There is not one. The state route is online and the Central file goes to Delhi by post.

Writing Ballabgarh on one paper and Ballabhgarh on another

Official sources use both, which is exactly why mixing them stops a file. Pick the one on your address proof.

Reconciling an old district with the current one

Gurgaon or Faridabad on one paper and Palwal on another, inside the same file. Use the current district only.

Assuming the state route is impractical

Because the department is in Chandigarh. It is an online application. Distance decides nothing in Haryana.

Using the state route when a passport is the real driver

Or an out-of-state board. Then the whole thing has to be repeated centrally. Decide the route before you spend anything.

Not reading the newspaper proof before it prints

The cheapest check in the entire process, and the one most often skipped. Check the district and the town spelling, not just your name.

Arranging a demand draft for the Central fee

Payment is on BharatKosh only. A draft in favour of a Controller of Publications in Faridabad names an officer and an office that do not exist.

Updating employer HR but not payroll or verification

They are separate records in separate systems, and the one you miss is the one that surfaces at your next background check.

Should you do it yourself or take professional help?

The Haryana route is an online form and the Central route is paperwork, so no lawyer is required.

A Faridabad resident with a straightforward case can manage either route alone, and this guide has the sequence in the order you need it. We would rather say so than charge for form-filling.

Where help actually earns its fee here

The route decision. Whether your case needs the state gazette or the Gazette of India determines the cost and whether you end up doing it twice, and in an NCR city with an out-of-state workforce the answer is Central more often than people expect.

Then the checking. On the Central route the fee is not refundable, and one mismatch, including a district or a town name spelled two ways, means the file comes back after weeks with nothing to show for it.

What a service can and cannot do

The Central Gazette accepts applications only from the applicant directly, or by post or courier. So an honest service prepares and checks your file while you sign and send it. Nobody can lawfully hand it in on your behalf, and nobody has a counter in Faridabad to hand it in at.

And an honest service tells you plainly when the Haryana route would have done the job, when a Registrar correction was the whole answer, and when your remedy is a free statutory appeal rather than a paid follow-up. That is how Documentadvisor works.

Your Trust and Security First

Your documents stay private

Papers are handled by our own desk in Burari, Delhi, used for your file and nothing else.

We name your route first

Haryana gazette or Gazette of India, decided from your records and the institution you must satisfy, before any money changes hands.

We settle the name, district and spelling

One form of each, matched to your address proof, so all three papers in the file say exactly the same thing.

We will not send you to an office that is not there

There is no gazette office in Faridabad. We say so plainly, because a widely shared page says otherwise.

We tell you about your free remedies

If a state application stalls, Haryana gives you first and second appeal officers. That costs nothing, and we will point you at it.

We say when we do not know

We print no state fee or turnaround we could not verify. We tell you to read it on the portal at the application stage.

Everything You Need, In One Place

Choosing between the two routes

Haryana gazette or Gazette of India, decided from your records and the institution you must satisfy, so you do not pay for the wrong one and then repeat it.

Settling the name, district and spelling

One version of each, matched to your address proof, carried identically across the affidavit, both notices and the proforma.

Name change and gazette filing

Drafting the affidavit, wording and booking the Hindi and English notices, and preparing the application on whichever route your case belongs to.

File checking before dispatch

The proforma, the soft copy, the witness proofs and the matching certificate, checked against the Department's own list so the file is accepted the first time.

Out-of-state board corrections

Sequencing the gazette first, then the application to a board in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan or wherever your certificate was issued.

Birth and death certificate work

Registrar corrections under Section 15 through the Municipal Corporation Faridabad, or whichever body actually registered the record.

How It Works

1

Book

Call or WhatsApp us with photographs of every document carrying your name, including your address proof, and tell us whether a passport is in view, whether any certificate is from another state, and whether you are in Government service.

2

Schedule

We tell you which route your case needs, which written form of your name, district and town should stand, and what the Government fee on that route will be.

3

Relax

We draft, word the notices and check the file. You sign and submit it, because on the Central route the rules allow nobody else to.

The questions Faridabad applicants search for most

Is there a gazette office in Faridabad?

No. Haryana's state route is applied for online through the Antyodaya SARAL portal, and the Central Gazette office is at Civil Lines, Delhi. A blog page telling you to visit an office in Faridabad is describing something that does not exist.

Does Haryana have its own name change route?

Yes. It runs through the Printing and Stationery Department and is applied for online through Antyodaya SARAL. Because it is online, the department's location does not affect you.

My old certificate names Gurgaon district. Is that a problem?

No. Faridabad district was carved out of Gurgaon on 15 August 1979, so an earlier certificate correctly names Gurgaon. Use your current district in the new application and leave the older document alone.

Ballabgarh or Ballabhgarh?

Official sources use both. The district administration's own site writes Ballabgarh; the Metro station writes Ballabhgarh. Whichever appears on your own address proof is the one to use, on every paper in the file, without variation.

Which route do I need for a passport?

The Central Gazette. Part IV of the Gazette of India is what passport offices, embassies and central employers recognise. If a passport is anywhere in view, the state route will not save you anything.

Do I have to go to Delhi for the Central route?

No. Applications are accepted from the applicant directly or by post or courier. Agents cannot file in your place, so posting is normal and carries no disadvantage even from twenty five kilometres away.

People also search for: name change procedure in Faridabad, gazette office in Faridabad, Haryana gazette name change, Antyodaya SARAL name change, Ballabgarh name change, name correction in Faridabad, Palwal district gazette, change of name Gazette of India Part IV, Municipal Corporation Faridabad birth certificate correction, name change agent in Faridabad.

Frequently asked questions on changing your name in Faridabad

Why has my district name changed twice?

Because Faridabad district was carved out of Gurgaon district on 15 August 1979, and Palwal district was then carved out of Faridabad on 15 August 2008. Both on Independence Day, twenty nine years apart. Families in the southern belt have held three district names without moving.

Do I need to correct older documents that name the old district?

No. Each is accurate for the date it was issued, and no office is entitled to reject one on that ground. Just use your current district consistently in the new application, and do not try to explain the history inside the file.

Ballabgarh or Ballabhgarh, which is correct?

Both appear in official Government material. The district administration's own website writes Ballabgarh; the Metro station writes Ballabhgarh. Use whichever your address proof carries, unchanged, on every paper in the file, and do not let anybody correct it for you.

Is there a gazette office in Faridabad?

No. The Haryana state route is an online application through Antyodaya SARAL, and the Central Gazette office is at Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. A widely shared blog page tells readers to visit a gazette office in the city, and no such office exists.

Which route should I choose?

The Haryana state route for records inside the state. The Gazette of India for a passport, a visa, a central Government post, or a bank, board or employer outside Haryana. If both apply to you, the Central route satisfies everything and the state one does not.

Is the state route practical from Faridabad?

Yes, entirely. It is an online application through Antyodaya SARAL, so the Printing and Stationery Department's location in Chandigarh makes no difference to you. Distance decides nothing in Haryana, which is why any page arguing from distance here has missed the point.

How often is the Haryana Gazette published?

Weekly. The Government of Haryana records that the Ordinary Gazette is published weekly in fifteen different Parts and sub-parts and is dispatched every Friday, while urgent matter goes into the Extraordinary Gazette.

Does the Haryana Gazette have a Part IV?

It has fifteen Parts and sub-parts of its own, and its numbering is its own. Part IV belongs to the Gazette of India. If a service quotes you a Part IV for a state gazette, it has copied Central wording onto a state process.

What if the state application stalls?

Haryana operates a statutory service framework with first and second appeal officers under the Right to Service Act, 2014. Keep your application reference and payment receipt and use that route rather than paying somebody to chase it for you.

Do I have to go to Delhi for the Central route?

No. Applications are accepted from the applicant directly or by post or courier. Agents cannot file in your place, so posting is normal and carries no disadvantage even from twenty five kilometres away.

Which newspapers should I use?

One Hindi and one English daily that genuinely circulate in Faridabad. Hindi is Haryana's official language, with English and Punjabi as additional official languages. Read the proof before it prints and keep the complete original page with the date visible.

How do I pay the Central fee?

Only through bharatkosh.gov.in, the Non-Tax Receipt Portal. Demand drafts are not accepted and the fee is non-refundable, so the file must be right before you pay rather than after.

Will I get a printed gazette by post?

Not from the Central Gazette. Hard copies ceased on 1 October 2015, so you download the PDF free from egazette.gov.in using Control and F to find your name in the relevant issue. It needs no certification.

Can I pay extra to publish faster?

No. Neither route sells expedited Government processing and no tatkal fee head exists on either. A promise of faster processing for a higher fee describes a company's own turnaround rather than anything either office offers.

My board certificate is from another state. What then?

Use the Central Gazette, which is valid everywhere, then apply to that board with the notification attached. Ask the board first what it accepts, because some are stricter about the age of the notification or the form of the affidavit than the gazette office is.

I work in Delhi or Noida. Does that change anything?

It usually means you need the Central route, and it means your employer may hold your name in several separate systems, including HR, payroll and a background verification agency. Update all of them, because the one you miss surfaces at the next background check.

Can a gazette alone correct my board certificate?

No. The board runs its own correction process and decides the outcome. The gazette supports the application rather than replacing it. Complete the gazette first, then apply with it attached, and expect the institution's own timeline on top.

My birth certificate has a clerical error. Do I need a gazette?

Probably not. That is a Registrar correction under Section 15 of the RBD Act, 1969, through the Municipal Corporation Faridabad or whichever body registered the birth. If the birth was registered in what is now Palwal district, it goes to the body there.

Can I change my name after marriage without a court order?

Yes. A simple name change needs the affidavit, newspaper and gazette stages only, with the marriage certificate attached. No court is involved and no lawyer is required. If you keep using your existing name, you do not need a gazette at all.

How do I change a minor's name?

A parent or legal guardian applies with a parent-sworn affidavit and the child's birth certificate attached. On the Central route the minor fee, commonly Rs 1,700, applies with the usual revision caveat. No personal appearance by the child is required anywhere.

What should I ask a service before paying?

Which gazette they mean, whether the Government fee is included, what happens on rejection, and where exactly the file is submitted. If they offer to hand it in at a gazette office in Faridabad, they are describing something that does not exist.

Who wrote and checked this page?

This guide is written and maintained by the Documentadvisor documentation desk, the team that files gazette notifications, affidavits and newspaper advertisements across India from our office in Burari, Delhi. The Central file contents, the fee heads, the one year rule, the non-return of documents and the download instructions come from the Department of Publication's own guidelines for change of name.

On the two district divisions, and what we verified. The Palwal district administration's own site records that “Finally Palwal became the 21st district of Haryana on 15 Augest, 2008” and that Gurgaon district had earlier been divided to form a new Faridabad district. We have reproduced that sentence as it stands, spelling and all, because the point of this page is that official sources are written by people. Faridabad district came onto the map on 15 August 1979 as the twelfth district of Haryana, carved out of Gurgaon, and Palwal, Hodal and Hathin left it in 2008.

On the Haryana Gazette, which most guides never describe. The Government of Haryana records that the Gazette is “published weekly by the Printing & Stationery Department, Haryana”, that the Ordinary Gazette is “published weekly in fifteen different Parts/sub-parts which contains Notifications and Orders” and is “dispatched on every Friday”, and that every immediate notification requiring an extraordinary issue is printed in the Haryana Government Extraordinary Gazette. The department's own page describes a gazette as “a public journal, a newspaper of Government record and an authorised legal document of the Government published weekly.” That is what lets us say with confidence that Part IV is Central numbering and does not belong to a state gazette.

On the spelling, and a date we could not settle. The district administration's own history writes Ballabgarh, recording that a ruler “had built a mud fort in about 1740 and named it Ballabgarh”, and refers to the “Faridabad and Ballabgarh tehsils”. The Metro station is Ballabhgarh. Separately, the same district site gives the town as “established in AD 1707 by Sheikh Farid”, while other Government material and the standard reference works give 1607 and describe Shaikh Farid as treasurer to Jahangir, an emperor whose reign ended long before 1707. We are not going to pretend to settle that, and nothing in an application turns on it. We report it because it is the clearest possible illustration of why your own address proof, and not a reference work, decides what you write.

On distance, and a framing we deliberately did not use. Faridabad is about twenty five kilometres from Delhi and about 284 kilometres south of Chandigarh. It would have been easy, and technically true, to build this page around those two numbers. We did not, because for Haryana it would be misleading. The state route is an online application, so the 284 kilometres is irrelevant to a Faridabad applicant, and the Central route is by post, so the 25 kilometres is irrelevant too. Saying plainly that distance decides nothing here is more useful than a striking comparison that would send readers to the wrong conclusion.

On the state fee and turnaround, and what we did not print. We have printed no Haryana fee and no Haryana turnaround, because those belong on the portal at the application stage and are revised without notice. We would rather send you to read the current figure than repeat one we could not stand behind. The weekly Friday dispatch is a matter of published record and we have quoted it as exactly that, not as a promise about your own application.

On the older page we are replacing. The page previously covering this keyword carried a Rs 999 headline, a demand draft “drawn in favour of Controller of Publications, Faridabad” for an office that does not exist, an instruction to “Make a digital CD” when the Department has required an MS Word soft copy for years, a fee table reading Rs 1,300 to Rs 1,500 for adults with a tatkal option that exists on no Government route, an instruction that a parent must visit a Government office with the child, a claim that notices must appear in “all major national newspapers” when two dailies are what is required, and a claim that a name with punctuation cannot be taken. Every one of those is corrected above.

On the Rs 250 figure. Several guides state that the Department charges Rs 250 extra per alias name. That is a misreading. The additional charge relates to a change of religion case, not to each additional alias. Read the current rate on deptpub.gov.in before paying.

Where can you verify all of this yourself?

Every claim above can be checked at these sources. Type the addresses yourself rather than following a link from any guide, including this one.

  • Guidelines for Change of Name, Department of PublicationThe whole Central file in one place: the notice for Part IV, the undertaking, the proforma computer typed in two copies with two witnesses, the MS Word soft copy, the matching contents certificate, the one year rule and the fee heads. Note what is absent: any CD, and any demand draft.
  • Department of Publication, Government of IndiaThe Central Gazette office, at Civil Lines behind Delhi Vidhan Sabha Metro Station, Delhi 110054, under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Read the address yourself before believing any page that puts a branch of it in Faridabad.

The short version

Everything on this page in ten lines

  • Three stages: a notarised affidavit, two newspaper notices in a Hindi and an English daily, and then either the Haryana gazette or the Gazette of India.
  • Haryana's route is an online application through Antyodaya SARAL, run by the Printing and Stationery Department. The Central route goes by post to Civil Lines, Delhi 110054.
  • Neither route needs you to travel, so distance decides nothing. Do not choose on the strength of where an office sits.
  • There is no gazette office in Faridabad. A widely shared blog page says otherwise and is wrong.
  • The Haryana Gazette is published weekly, dispatched every Friday, in fifteen Parts and sub-parts of its own. Part IV is Central numbering only.
  • The Central fee is commonly Rs 1,100 adult, Rs 1,700 minor and Rs 3,500 from abroad, on bharatkosh.gov.in only. No demand drafts, and the Rs 250 addition relates to a religion case, not to each alias.
  • Faridabad district was carved out of Gurgaon on 15 August 1979 and gave up Palwal, Hodal and Hathin on 15 August 2008. Three district names, one place, nobody moved.
  • Use your current district and one spelling of Ballabgarh or Ballabhgarh, exactly as your address proof writes them, on all three papers.
  • If you work in Delhi, Noida or Gurugram, or hold a board certificate from another state, the Central route is usually the one you need.
  • If the state application stalls, use the free first and second appeal under the Right to Service Act, 2014, and a birth certificate error is a Section 15 Registrar correction.

Current district. One spelling. The right route.

Send us your documents on WhatsApp today. We will tell you which of the two routes your case actually needs, which written form of your name, district and town should stand on every paper, what the Government fee on that route is, and whether a Registrar correction or a free statutory appeal would have done the job instead.
